You are a nurse working in an adolescent eating disorder care unit. One of your clients is a 14-year old female with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. You are meeting with the parents of this client. The mother of the client states, “I am so sorry about this. I am embarrassed because I always prepare a meal plan for her. My daughter is usually very good and this is not like her at all. I told her that outbursts like this will not get her into Harvard. What can I do to change her?” Provide education to the parents about Anorexia Nervosa. Include risk factors and treatment expectations. What personality disorder may the parents be demonstrating characteristics of? What are the expected labs of the client and how can you evaluate that the client is psychologically improving?
