EATING AND PERSONALITY DISORDERS

Application

The following material does not need to be reviewed in any particular order. Browse through the resources and start off with whatever interests you the most. We will have an open discussion based on concepts covered in this section.

Client Manipulation

  • How did the nurse respond to the client’s attempt at manipulation?

  • Do you feel that this client would continue harming themself if given the opportunity to do so?

  • The professional introduction is your best tool at managing clients who test boundaries. Practice your professional introduction by stating the following

    • “Hi, my name is _______ one of the registered nurses (nursing students) who work on the unit (from West Coast University). Thank you for allowing me to talk with you today. Over the next five(or however many) minutes, I plan on asking you a few questions so I can learn how to better provide care for you today. Before I do that, I was wondering if you had any questions you would like to ask?
