Therapeutic Communication

Creation

Now is the time to take all that you have learned and create! Use any of the applications listed below to create content based on the topic listed below. Groups work is ok but must be able to demonstrate multiple group members worth of work. Submit a screenshot of your work to the Passport for this class. You will have to select “Retry Submission.” This is due by the start of our next exam and is worth the second half of your passport points for the seminar.

You are a nurse working in a sub acute medical surgical unit. Upon reviewing your client assignments for the day, you notice that a client you had previously discharged three times has been admitted again for the same issue, diabetic ketoacidosis. After you introduce yourself, the client states, “Here I am again. You must be sick of seeing me. Well I am sick of being here. So do what you have to do.” After spending some time engaging with the client, you determine that they are in the precontemplation stage of change and are experiencing difficulties adhering to a healthy diet for diabetes. What type of question can you use to FOCUS with the client? How would you plan to provide education for the client? What would you do if the client refuses to talk about diet?
